Dear Parents and Students,
Welcome to Mrs. Bucud’s fifth grade class! I am looking forward to a great year of learning and growing! We will have a busy year, but with your cooperation we will have a fun year too.
This year we are doing a departmentalized schedule where your child will be going to Ms. Elliot for Math, Mrs. Vickers for Social Studies and Science, and I will be teaching your child Reading/Language Arts. This is going to require more responsibility, especially with keeping folders and assignments organized. Please encourage your child to always use the correct color folders for the correct subjects. To find out more about what we will be doing in Reading/Language Arts this year, please see the syllabus your child will bring home. You can also see the syllabus at http://hardemancs6.gabbarthost.com/438055_3
I am honored to have the opportunity to work with you and your child. Parent involvement is vital to a student’s educational success. Please read the policies and procedures and go over this together. These will be sent home after we review them in class on Wednesday and Thursday.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns. The best way to contact me is through the Remind app from 7:00 A.M. until 7:00 P.M. Monday through Friday (on school days). To sign up for Mrs. Bucud’s Remind, send the following text- in bold letters- to the number 81010:
if your child is in Mrs. Bucud’s homeroom, text @bucud
if your child is in Ms. Elliott’s homeroom text @bucude
if your child is in Mrs. Vickers’s homeroom text @bucudv
However, you may also call the school to set up a conference, or send me a note. I can also be reached through email at firstname.lastname@example.org
You can find a supply list at http://hardemancs6.gabbarthost.com/239208_2
Together, we can help everyone succeed in fifth grade!
➢ You are to sharpen 2 pencils by 8:00 A.M. and you may sharpen them again immediately after lunch if necessary.
➢ School policy requires you to bring a note if you are going to a different place after school or if someone is going home with you. You will NOT be allowed to use the phone to call for these notes.
Mrs. Bucud’s Classroom Expectations
The following rules and policies will be followed in our class.
Be Respectful Rule --- Follow directions quickly.
Be Outstanding Rule--- Raise your hand for permission to speak.
Be Accountable Rule--- Raise your hand for permission to leave your seat.
Be Responsible Rule---Make smart choices.
Rule 5: Keep your dear teacher happy!
Rule 6: Keep your eyes on the target!
Students are expected to follow the rules of the school and classroom. Failure to do so will result in a consequence. Consequences will be applied for not completing homework, cheating, excessive talking, not following directions, being off task, disrespect to others or to property, being unprepared (not ready to start class, not having supplies), being out of seat, causing distractions, rough housing (dangerous play or activity), signed papers not being signed by the 2nd day, making threats, and fighting. There will also be consequences for other infractions as deemed necessary.
When homework is not completed, the consequence for the first 2 offenses will be a homework slip written up for a parent/guardian to sign and return. Subsequent homework infractions will result in the student being officially written up- remember every third (official) write up will result in AES.
Late homework may be turned in immediately upon entering the classroom the day after its original due date minus 10 points; if it is not turned in at this time, it is a zero. Assignments where students have been given more than 3 days to complete will NOT be accepted late. Cheating will result in a note to parents and a zero on the assignment.
Fighting will result in student automatically going to the office.
Other consequences shall include a behavior reflection to be signed by parents and student, write-off, loss of a privilege, going to the office, and AES. If a student goes to AES, he/she will automatically receive a U in conduct.
Excessive violations on any classroom expectations will result in the student being written up and going to the office. Remember, every 3rd write up means the student will go to AES. Excessive talking or misbehavior from the class as a whole may result in silent lunch or 5-10 minutes off PE (walking). If necessary, whole PE will be taken.

Ms. Elliott’s Classroom Procedures and Expectations
Welcome to 5th Grade! I am looking forward to a great school year!
Our class rules are:
Be prepared for class.
Follow all teacher directions.
Respect the teacher, classmates, and property.
Work hard, and always do your best.
Students will be expected to follow the class and school rules each day.
Take-Home Folder and Planners
Each day, your child will need to bring home their orange take-home folder to school. In the orange folder, you will find their math homework that he or she is responsible for tearing out and placing in their orange folder. Also, each student will be expected to bring home their planner each night. Each student is expected to write down their homework assignments in their planner. Each day, I will be looking for a parent’s signature (or initial) to ensure that you are seeing your child’s homework each night.
Homework and Signed Papers
Students will have homework assignments to complete on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. On Wednesdays, students will not have homework; this day can be used as extra time to practice math facts (multiplication and division) at home.
Every two weeks, students will get their signed papers in order to show their progress in class. Please review the grades with your child. You may also want to review questions or problems that were missed with your child. These papers should be returned in your child’s orange take-home folder as soon as possible.
I am looking forward to a great year!

You can place the envelope in your child’s take-home folder on the side marked return to school. Your child can turn the note in on the next day. You may also write a quick note in your child’s planner. In addition, please feel free to sign up for Remind and you will be able to send notes to me using this program.
My name is Falesha Vickers and I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you and
your child to my 5th Grade class.
I am so excited to be teaching 5th grade this year!
It is going to be exciting and challenging for us all. I look forward to each day we will spend together.
Since we have much to do and learn this year, below is some information that will be helpful.
School begins each day at 8:00 A.M. . Breakfast starts at 7:30 A.M. and is served until 7:45 A.M.. If your child is eating breakfast at school, please have them here in plenty of time to eat and start their morning work. If your child is absent, a note should be sent to school the day he/she returns stating the reason for the absence so the work can be made up. Unexcused absences will result in your child not being able to make up work and they will receive zeros for the day(s) absent.
***The students will have three days to get make-up work completed. After this time has passed, any work not turned in will result in a zero.
A list of supplies can be found at http://hardemancs6.gabbarthost.com/239208_2 Please ask for a list if you need one.
Students will have homework some nights. Their planner will contain their nightly homework as in years past. Please initial this so I know you are aware of what is going on. I will use this as a place of communication with you.
***I have a homework slip policy in place if students do not have their homework ready to be turned in on the assigned. The students will fill out the form and I will send home to be signed. They will have 2 warning slips and on the 3rd time I will begin filling out minor slips that will be given to the office. If your child forgets their work a 5th time, or the minor slip is their 3rd one, they will be sent to the office. I try to instill in the children a sense of responsibility and give them plenty of chances before actually involving the office.
Students are expected to follow the rules of the school and classroom. Failure to do so will result in a consequence. Consequences will be applied for not completing homework, cheating, excessive talking, not following directions, being off task, disrespect to others or to property, being unprepared (not ready to start class, not having supplies), being out of seat, causing distractions, rough housing (dangerous play or activity), signed papers not being signed by the 2nd day, and fighting.
Please remember if your child needs to take any form of medication here at school you will need to fill out a medication form and bring the medicine to the school yourself.
Just a Reminder
Please send a note if your child is to go home a different way from what he/she usually does in the afternoon. If your child is riding with another child, both children need to have a note stating the information. They need to know before coming to school how they are going home. The children will not be allowed to call during the day if they forget notes.
I know that we are going to have a great year. I look forward to working with you to help your child be a successful student. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to make this year be your child’s best school year yet!!
