WHAT IS ACCELERATED READER?
Accelerated Reader (AR) is a computer program that helps
teachers and librarians manage and monitor children’s
independent reading practice. Your child picks a book at
his or her own reading level and reads it at his/her own pace.
When finished, your child takes a short quiz on the computer.
AR gives the child, teacher and librarian feedback
based on their test performance. This feedback
is used to set goals and guide instruction.
Students earn points from AR tests. These points are
used to earn prizes twice a year in the library.
